Eastbourne – it’s all about the journey

We toddled down to the coast this weekend from London to Eastbourne – the sunniest place in the UK! According to the tourist info helpers.

Brilliant sunshine, lighthouses, ice cream, pebbles, pebbles, pebbles, a princess-style pier, and fairy lights at dusk…

We stayed on the grand old East Beach hotel on the Esplanade which is a stone’s throw to good local pub food and the town shops. The rooms are quaint and clean and fronting onto the sea, are adequate for the job.

On then to Alfriston in East Sussex which is hands-down the most gorgeous town. 15th century buildings, bnbs, and best of all… bakeries like ‘Badgers’ cafe which is a heady mix of tea, scones, and a fluffy elderflower sponge. Must return…

If we had our choice we’d stay at the rather nice looking Dean’s Hotel or The Star Hotel.

Eloise loves unpacking when she gets to a hotel, finding the best coffee shop at any destination, and that first G&T on the plane.
